Joaquín Cortés has returned to the media spotlight.
We knew nothing about Joaquín Cortés since last December when Semana magazine revealed that the bailaor had decided to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch in Madrid with his wife Mónica Moreno and his sons Romeo and Leone after a period living in Portugal.
Controversy has followed him
A time marked by controversy, since after 18 months without paying the rent for his home in Lisbon, he was evicted and ordered to pay the landlord 55,000 euros.
The controversy is settled
A topic on which he has spoken during the presentation of »Esencia», the tour with which he returns to the stage 4 years later and that will start at the Teatro Real on March 14. «It’s all arranged. Everything is fine and I am very happy to be able to return to Madrid», he confessed, avoiding going into details and assuring that what is really «important» is not his economic problems but «to return to the stage, to work again, to take Spanish art all over the world and for people to enjoy».
Very excited and looking forward to returning
«With a lot of illusion and a lot of desire after this break of four long years with the pandemic. I am very excited to return to the stage. After the Teatro Real we are going to Seville, we are going to Barcelona to the Liceo theater, to San Sebastian and there will be four dates there with great enthusiasm to return to the Spanish public also because it seems that I am always out and never come here and on the contrary, I want to come here because I have a very loyal audience and eager to enjoy with them» he added very excited at the prospect of meeting again with his audience with his most ambitious tour, »Esencia», in which he will be accompanied by a company of 30 people including dancers and band.
Wants to take »Esencia» beyond Spain’s borders
After his tour through most of our country, Joaquin plans to take his »Esencia» all over the planet, as he tells us excited: «I will start with the American continent and do first the United States, Latin America, Mexico and possibly Canada. Then I will tour Europe, Asia and wherever the world takes us. We are going all over the world».
He combines his professional and personal life
A return to the stage that he will combine with his role as father of Romeo and Leone, 4 and 2 years old, with whom he confesses to be completely in love: «I am delighted to be a dad, happy with this new stage of my life. It’s hard but wonderful,» he admits, recalling the hard times he and his wife went through when the little boy was admitted to the hospital when he was just a newborn. «We had a hard time, but now he’s doing great,» he says, applauding Monica’s «sacrifice and courage» during their youngest son’s illness.
Music and dance are in their blood.
Although they are still very young and it is not known if they will follow in their footsteps as artists, Joaquín explains that «the vein is there and they love music and dance, so we’ll see». «I would like them to do what they like, because when I was little I liked to dance and my parents supported me and that’s wonderful when they support you in doing what you want. And whatever they want, I’m going to support them,» he says with a smile.
For the time being, there is no intention to expand the family
Are you considering expanding your family? As he says, «right now I’m fine and now I’m starting another stage of movement and I’m delighted with my children, but you never know in life. I enjoy them a lot and when I have time to travel for work, I take them with me».
