Ed Sheeran is in the middle of a legal process
The legal proceedings against British singer Ed Sheeran for allegedly copying Marvin Gaye’s song «Let’s Get It On» began Tuesday in a New York courtroom with the selection of the jury, and continued on Wednesday.

The accusation was filed in 2017 by the heirs of Ed Townsend, co-author of «Let’s Get It On», alleging that Sheeran would have plagiarized that piece in his track «Thinking Out Loud», released in 2014.
The defense argues that it is not plagiarism.
However, the British artist’s legal representatives argue that both compositions are based on a common chord sequence.
Ed Sheeran to testify at trial
Sheeran is expected to testify during the trial, which comes shortly before the release of his new album and the start of his U.S. tour.
After the trial he will start his North American tour
The musician announced in October that he would perform in North America in 2023 as part of his «Mathematics» tour, although he did not include a stop in New York City.
He is accused of plagiarism in the song «Thinking Out Loud».
The song «Thinking Out Loud» was included in his album «X», which has sold millions of copies.
This is not the first time he has been accused of plagiarism.
Sheeran already won in March last year a lawsuit in the UK for copyright infringement in his song «Shape of You».
Coincidence is bound to happen
In a tweet, the singer stated last year, «Coincidence is bound to happen. If 60,000 songs are posted on Spotify every day, that’s 22 million songs a year. There are only 12 notes available.»
The singer will have to wait to know the verdict
However, it will be up to the twelve jurors selected Wednesday to determine, under the supervision of Judge Louis Stanton, 95, whether the similarities between the two songs are due to plagiarism or are simply coincidental.
