«Maybe my producer will kill me, it’s a film I have written and I’m afraid it’s going to be a gay-themed film,» the director revealed during the presentation of the book »Amenábar. El valor de contar historias», written by journalist Pau Gómez, when asked about his next feature film.
His new project is still under development
This is a film without a release date because, according to him, the project has not yet secured financing.

»Amenábar. El valor de contar historias» is a book that, with a prologue by Belén Rueda, leading actress in his film »Mar Adentro», reviews the filmmaker’s film career from his first film, »Tesis», to his latest project, »Fortuna», a series premiering in 2021.

During the colloquium, Amenábar also recalled some of his worst moments as a director, which have caused him insomnia and panic attacks due to lack of financial support or the intensity of the shootings. Something for which he has resorted to his mother figure and psychological help.

Likewise, Amenábar has expressed his civic vocation to make films that generate awareness without the need to impose an ideology. Something that, according to him, would be «insulting to the spectator».
The importance of telling real stories
«I am aware that I live in a block where there are a lot of people who do not vote the same as me, as it should be, and it is about going out into the street and not spitting on each other or insulting each other. Sometimes it seems that what we see in Congress or hear on the radio we have to reproduce in the street, and it is not so,» he added.
The director accumulates a career of successes and awards
Alejandro Amenábar has directed films such as »Agora», »Mar Adentro», »Los otros» or »Mientras dure la Guerra» and has received important awards such as several Goyas, for best film and best new director among them, and the Oscar for best foreign film.
