Indictment against Baldwin
The New Mexico U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter following the accident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film ‘Rust’.
The incident in October 2021
The facts date back to October 2021, when the actor fired, during the filming of a scene, a firearm that should have been a blank. Halyna Hutchins, 42, died of serious injuries from the gunshot wound while being transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque; the film’s director, Joel Souza, was also injured and was admitted in serious condition to the hospital in Santa Fe.
Baldwin said he did not pull the trigger
During this time, Baldwin, who claimed he never pulled the trigger even though FBI evidence argued otherwise, sued the gunsmith and several crew members involved in the production of the film ‘Rust’ for negligence.
Baldwin claims not responsible
In the lawsuit, picked up by CBS News, Baldwin alleges that he was not responsible for the safety of the gun and did not know it was loaded with live rounds.
Review of weapons
The complaint alleged that the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed «failed to carefully check the bullets or the gun.» Also that the assistant manager, David Halls, «examined the gun carefully and yet announced that the gun was safe before handing it to Baldwin.»
